Red Cross Day Being Observed Worldwide Today

Kathmandu, May 8: The World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is being observed today across the globe under the theme “Keeping Humanity Alive.”

Celebrated annually on May 8, the day honors the unwavering dedication of millions involved in humanitarian service through the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement worldwide.

The day also marks the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. His vision laid the foundation for one of the world’s largest humanitarian networks, committed to alleviating human suffering during wars, natural disasters, health crises, and other emergencies.

On this occasion, tributes are paid to individuals and volunteers who uphold the core values of compassion, neutrality, selflessness, and solidarity, serving communities in need across the world.

In a time marked by growing inequality, health challenges, and conflict, Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers continue to inspire hope and promote peace. They believe this day is a reminder of the importance of keeping humanity alive, especially in the most trying circumstances.
