Japan Issues Emergency Warning as Record Rainfall Hits Kagoshima and Okinawa

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) issued an emergency warning Saturday after record rainfall battered Kagoshima’s Yoron Town, with 594 mm in 24 hours, and Okinawa’s Higashi Village, with 442 mm.

The intense rains have caused flooding, road closures, and increased landslide risks. Residents are advised to remain indoors, stay alert, and prepare for possible evacuation as more rain is expected through the evening. Emergency teams are on standby as local authorities work to monitor and respond to the unfolding weather crisis.
