KU, NPI Sign Agreement to Collaborate on Research and Education

Lalitpur, April 29 — Kathmandu University (KU) and the Nepal Policy Institute (NPI), a Hague-based think tank, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on education and research initiatives.

The MoU was signed during a formal ceremony held on Monday at KU’s School of Management in Lalitpur.

Dr. Dinesh Kafle, Head of the Global Engagement Division at KU, stated that the agreement outlines collaboration in joint research, academic publications, and the exchange of students and faculty. The two institutions will also work together to secure grants for policy research and support each other's efforts to promote research-driven initiatives.

Speaking at the event, KU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Achyut Wagle expressed optimism about the partnership. “This MoU will open doors for the exchange of expertise and experiences within the academic communities of both institutions,” he said. “At KU, we actively seek to host international scholars and professors for long-term teaching and research. Engaging with experts from the diaspora through NPI will enrich our educational programs and foster stronger academic cooperation.”

NPI Board Chair Dr. Khagendra Dhakal highlighted the institute’s contributions to policy research and the development of Nepal’s think tank ecosystem. “This partnership will strengthen the existing academic and research efforts of both institutions,” he remarked. Dr. Dhakal also emphasized the significance of creating a tri-lateral cooperation model involving universities, think tanks, and the public sector.

He further noted that the MoU provides a platform for Nepali professionals working abroad to contribute their knowledge and skills toward Nepal’s development.

Founded in 1992, Kathmandu University currently has around 22,000 students. Nepal Policy Institute, established in 2017 in The Hague, Netherlands, operates a global network of over 1,260 experts.

The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials and dignitaries from both institutions.
