Over 1,000 Former Afghan Officials Return Home - Spokesman
The Commission of Liaison and Repatriation of Afghan Personalities has facilitated the return of 1,008 former government members to Afghanistan since April 2022, according to spokesperson Ahmadullah Wasiq.
Speaking to local media, Wasiq reported that the returnees include high-ranking former officials such as ministers, generals, governors, and commanders. He noted that all returning individuals are assured of their safety and that the commission has issued hundreds of immunity cards to ensure their protection.
After the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021, many Afghan security forces and civil servants fled the country. To support their safe return, Afghanistan’s caretaker government established the Commission of Liaison and Repatriation of Afghan Personalities in April 2022. This initiative aims to help Afghans who left following the change in government reconnect with their homeland.
