In a month, around 9,000 hikers visited the Sagarmatha region, also known as the Khumbu region, in Solukhumbu district.
According to the Sagarmatha National Park's Namche office, 8,902 tourists visited the Khumbu region between mid-September and mid-October of the current fiscal year 2024/25.
According to Bibek Shrestha, the Park's official, the entry fee generated more than Rs 20 million in money for the park. The entry charge to the region is Rs 100 per person for Nepali citizens, Rs 1500 for citizens of SAARC member countries, and Rs 3,000 for individuals from other nations.
However, the Park recorded only 125 trekkers accessing the region between mid-July and mid-August, while 1,331 trekkers entered the region between mid-August and mid-September. Their influx over this time period earned about Rs 3.6 million in revenue.
"The country is currently experiencing a tourist season. So, the arrival of tourists in the Khumbu region is high," owing to the pleasant environment and the region's spectacular scenery and towering mountains, including the tallest peak, the Sagarmatha. As tourist visitation grows, Park officials must retain accurate records and maximize revenue collection.
During the peak season, approximately 1,000 tourists visit the Park each day. Enlisted in the UNSECO World Heritage Site, the Park is located throughout 1,148 square kilometers with elevation varying from 1,800 metres to 8,848 metres.
