India – In a tragic incident, five members of a family, including a couple and their three children, lost their lives after the roof of their house collapsed in Punjab's Tarn Taran district early Saturday morning, police said.

The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. in Pandori Gola village, located approximately 28 km south of Amritsar, the Sikh holy city. Authorities said the family was asleep when the roof of their old house suddenly gave way.

"Local residents immediately launched a rescue operation and managed to pull all five members from the debris. However, they were declared brought dead upon arrival at the hospital," a police official stated.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the house was in a dilapidated condition, which may have contributed to the collapse. Police have registered a case and launched a probe into the matter.

This incident highlights the risks posed by aging infrastructure, especially in rural areas where homes often lack proper maintenance. Authorities have urged residents to assess the safety of old structures to prevent such tragedies.
