Zelensky Urges Continued Military Aid Amid Israel-Iran Tensions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed concern that the recent escalation between Israel and Iran could lead to a decline in military assistance to Ukraine.
In comments published Saturday, Zelensky said, "We would like to see aid to Ukraine not decrease because of this. The last time, such global tensions contributed to delays in support for Ukraine."
On Friday, Israel launched extensive airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear and military facilities, including top generals and atomic scientists. The strikes have triggered international calls for restraint, with growing fears of a wider regional conflict.
Zelensky warned that the attack had already led to a spike in global oil prices, which he said would ultimately benefit Russia. "The attacks led to a sharp rise in oil prices. This is bad for us," he noted, once again urging the international community to impose price caps on Russian oil exports.
The Ukrainian president also expressed hope of raising the issue of oil price caps in a potential meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in the near future.
While the Israeli strikes present new geopolitical risks, Zelensky acknowledged that the situation might also reduce the flow of Iranian-made military equipment especially drones from Tehran to Moscow. Russia has been heavily dependent on Iranian drones in its war against Ukraine.
Zelensky further warned that European support for Ukraine could falter without strong U.S. leadership. "Europe has not yet decided for itself that it will do with Ukraine if America is not there," he said.
He also urged the United States to take a firmer stance in its diplomatic approach to Russia. "The tone of the dialogue with Russia is currently too warm," he cautioned, adding that such an approach would not help bring an end to the war.
