Kathmandu University and Nepal Policy Institute Sign MoU to Strengthen Educational and Research Collaboration

Lalitpur – Kathmandu University (KU) and the Hague-based Nepal Policy Institute (NPI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on educational and research initiatives, marking a new chapter in academic and policy engagement between Nepal and the Nepali diaspora.

The MoU was signed during a formal event held at KU's School of Management on Monday. The agreement outlines joint efforts in research, academic publications, and the exchange of students and faculty members. Both institutions will also work together to mobilize research grants and strengthen policy research through shared resources.

Dr. Dinesh Kafle, head of KU’s Global Engagement Department, said the partnership will deepen institutional cooperation in advancing research initiatives.

Speaking at the ceremony, KU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Achyut Wagle expressed confidence that the agreement would facilitate the exchange of academic expertise and experiences. “KU has a longstanding policy of engaging foreign scholars in long-term teaching and research. This collaboration opens the door for diaspora experts to contribute meaningfully to our educational programs,” Dr. Wagle said.

NPI Board Chair Dr. Khagendra Dhakal highlighted the institute’s role in promoting policy research and supporting Nepal’s think tank ecosystem. “This MoU enables Nepali professionals abroad to apply their knowledge in Nepal, creating mutual benefits. It also underscores the importance of tri-lateral cooperation among universities, think tanks, and the public sector,” Dr. Dhakal stated.

Established in 1992, Kathmandu University is one of Nepal’s leading academic institutions, currently hosting over 22,000 students. The Nepal Policy Institute, founded in 2017 in The Hague, Netherlands, connects over 1,260 experts in its global network.

The signing ceremony was attended by senior university officials, faculty members, and representatives of NPI.
