General Secretary of the Nepali Congress (NC), Gagan Kumar Thapa, has announced that the party's general convention will be conducted before the upcoming periodic elections in 2084 BS.

Speaking to the media today, Thapa affirmed that the convention will adhere to the party’s statute, which mandates a convention every four years.

Thapa informed that the party aims to finalize its active membership list within the next two months. However, he acknowledged that issues related to membership verification and other challenges could potentially affect the timeline for holding the convention by the end of 2025.

On legislative matters, Thapa assured that the ordinances issued by the government will be presented in the House within a few days and will undergo discussions before approval.

He further emphasized that the Social Media Bill introduced by the government will not be passed without necessary amendments. According to him, the bill in its current form requires significant changes to protect public freedoms.
