Deadly drone attack targets hospital in Sudan’s Darfur, 68 people were killed

At least 68 people were killed and 19 others injured in a shelling by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Fasher, western Sudan, a non-governmental organization reported on Saturday.

"In a tragic massacre by the RSF in El Fasher, 68 patients and their companions lost their lives, and 19 others were injured due to a missile attack on the Saudi Hospital in North Darfur," the Sudanese Doctors Network said in a statement.

The Coordination of Resistance Committees in El Fasher, another local NGO, confirmed the incident, stating the attack caused "the total destruction of the hospital's emergency department, rendering it completely non-operational."

Darfur region governor Minni Arko Minnawi condemned the assault, highlighting that the targeted department was "the only one providing healthcare services to the residents of El Fasher."

Sudan has been mired in a catastrophic conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF since April 2023. The ongoing war has claimed over 27,000 lives and displaced more than 15 million people, according to international organizations.
