Severe Weather in Sri Lanka Affects Nearly 6,000

Severe weather conditions have impacted nearly 6,000 people across Sri Lanka as of Saturday morning, according to the latest update from the country’s Disaster Management Center (DMC).
The DMC reported that 5,974 individuals from 1,579 families have been affected, with 1,545 houses partially damaged due to heavy rainfall and strong winds associated with the ongoing monsoon season.
Meanwhile, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), Sri Lanka’s state-run power utility, recorded over 50,000 power outages nationwide as of 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
The Department of Meteorology has warned that adverse weather will persist over the next 24 hours, with heavy rainfall and wind speeds reaching 30 to 40 kilometers per hour expected in several regions.
Authorities have urged the public to take necessary precautions against potential hazards such as localized strong winds and lightning strikes during thunderstorms.
