Iran Replaces Air Defence Systems Damaged in War with Israel

Iran has replaced several air defence systems that were damaged during last month’s 12-day conflict with Israel, a senior Iranian military official announced on Sunday, according to state media.
In mid-June, Israel launched an unprecedented surprise bombing campaign against Iran, prompting retaliatory drone and missile strikes from Tehran. The conflict severely strained Iran’s air defence infrastructure, with systems across the country—particularly in the capital, Tehran—repeatedly activated in response to the bombardments.
"The Zionist enemy aimed to cripple our defence capabilities, and some of our systems were indeed damaged during the war," said General Mahmoud Mousavi, the head of operations for Iran’s army, as quoted by the official IRNA news agency. "Those damaged defence systems have now been replaced."
Iran's air defence arsenal includes the domestically produced Bavar-373 and Khordad-15 systems, designed to counter both aircraft and missiles. Additionally, Iran has deployed Russia’s S-300 surface-to-air missile systems since 2016.
The war claimed over 1,000 lives in Iran, while Iranian strikes killed at least 28 people in Israel, according to official figures from both governments. Israeli attacks were primarily focused on Iran’s military infrastructure and nuclear facilities.
In a major escalation, the United States—Israel’s key ally—carried out its own strikes on June 22, targeting Iranian nuclear sites in Fordo, Isfahan, and Natanz. While former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed the sites were “completely destroyed,” U.S. media reports suggest the damage may have been less severe. NBC News, citing a military damage assessment, reported that only one of the three facilities suffered extensive damage.
A ceasefire between Iran and Israel has been in effect since June 24. However, tensions remain high. Following the truce, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged to prevent Iran from rebuilding its nuclear program, fueling fears of renewed conflict.
Earlier this month, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said the country was preparing a new strategy to ensure Iran could not pose a threat again. "We must maintain air superiority over Tehran and prevent Iran from restoring its capabilities," Katz stated.
