On August 19, 2024, the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi issued a press release highlighting a significant diplomatic engagement between Nepal and India. The meeting, held in New Delhi, featured Nepal’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This interaction underscored the ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

The meeting focused on several critical areas of mutual interest. Both leaders emphasized the importance of further consolidating Nepal-India relations, recognizing the deep historical and cultural ties that bind the two nations. They discussed expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in various sectors, including trade, transit, energy, connectivity, and investment. These discussions aimed to enhance economic ties and promote sustainable development in both countries.

One of the significant topics of discussion was the review of infrastructure projects. The Pancheshwor Multipurpose Project, a key initiative aimed at harnessing water resources for irrigation and hydroelectric power, was a focal point. Additionally, both sides addressed issues related to border infrastructure, aiming to improve connectivity and facilitate smoother cross-border movement.

Both sides expressed their commitment to continuing engagements at various levels through regular bilateral mechanisms. This approach ensures that dialogue remains open and constructive, addressing any emerging issues promptly and effectively.

During the meeting, Dr. Deuba conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from Nepal’s Prime Minister, K P Sharma Oli. She extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi for a state visit to Nepal, underscoring the importance of high-level visits in maintaining strong diplomatic ties.
