At least nine people lost their lives, and 15 others sustained critical injuries on Friday following a collision between a pickup van and a canter truck in Punjab, northern India, police confirmed.

The tragic accident occurred near Golu ka Mour village in Ferozepur district, approximately 142 kilometers southwest of Amritsar, Punjab’s sacred Sikh city.

Authorities reported that the pickup van was carrying 25 to 30 catering company workers when it crashed into the truck.

A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fatal incident, officials said.
