Trump Slams Supreme Court Over Deportation Ruling

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday sharply criticized the U.S. Supreme Court after it blocked his administration's attempt to swiftly deport Venezuelan immigrants under a wartime-era law.
"The Supreme Court of the United States is not allowing me to do what I was elected to do," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "This is a bad and dangerous day for America!"
In a 7–2 decision, the Court denied the Trump administration’s request to lift a temporary block on deportations of Venezuelan nationals under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act (AEA). The majority opinion emphasized that the individuals in question were not being given adequate time or information to challenge their deportation in court.
"The detainees’ interests at stake are accordingly particularly weighty. Under these circumstances, notice roughly 24 hours before removal, devoid of information about how to exercise due process rights to contest that removal, surely does not pass muster," the majority wrote.
Trump argued that the ruling effectively protects "even the worst murderers, drug dealers, gang members, and the mentally ill" who enter the country illegally, claiming they can now remain in the U.S. for years, possibly committing further crimes before facing any legal proceedings.
In March, Trump invoked the Alien Enemies Act to initiate the deportation of an initial group of alleged Venezuelan gang members to a prison in El Salvador, bypassing traditional legal procedures. On April 19, the Supreme Court intervened, temporarily halting further removals and citing concerns over due process.
Friday's ruling extends that block, preventing the planned deportation of another group of detainees currently being held in Texas.
